Hello everyone! Here is the update for the children’s story book that I promised. This blog will include the “Script” for the story book and a picture of the brainstorm for the pages.
The basic storyline of The Bunniad that I created, taking inspiration from the Iliad is as follows (it is broken into 32 pages):
There once was a little bunny prince named Hector. He was a good bunny, always helping his family and friends and serving his kingdom.
But, his brother, the crown prince, liked to take things for himself. He didn’t care if he caused fights or hurt others. He liked to swipe little things that were not his.
But one day, Paris took something very special. Something he never should have touched.
BANG!
Hector hears the noise and looks at Paris. “Paris, what did you take?!”
Paris with the small golden crown-prince crown upon his head holds up a glistening golden carrot. “Isn’t it the most beautiful golden carrot you’ve ever laid eyes on?”
Hector looks shocked, his eyes narrowing. “You must return that immediately. That belongs to king Menelaus!”
Paris scrunches up his nose and looks snidely at Hector. “I’m the crown Prince, heir to the throne, I can do whatever I want!”
RAAUURRRRR!!
An army of brown rabbits stands on the large green hill just outside the castle. Foremost of the group is a rabbit with a great big crown on his head, king Menelaus.
Menelaus yells, “Someone has taken my beloved golden carrot! I am here to take it back and I shall bring your castle to the ground! He raises his sword.
Paris and Hector exit the castle gates, Paris holding the golden carrot.
Paris holds aloft the carrot, looking proud and angry. “The carrot is mine! I challenge you to a fight! If I win, I keep the carrot.”
THUD! King Menelaus has stepped forward. “I accept your challenge, bunny!” he says.
CLASH, CLANG, CRASH!
Paris is down upon the ground, defeated! The king's sword is raised to strike.
“WAIT!” yells a voice.
Hector steps forward, holding his sword. “I will fight for my family’s honor. If I win, you keep the carrot, but leave us in peace.”
The king looks scrutinizingly at Hector. “I agree to those terms!” the king yells with sword raised.
CLASH CLANG CRASH!
Hector has won and the king is at sword point!
“I have won!” said Hector. “Here is your golden carrot.” He hefts the carrot to the king.
“You are a brave young bunny,” said the king, accepting the carrot with a nod of his head.
The king turns and walks off. “Let us head home!”
Within the castle, Hector hugs his father. “Oh Hector, you are okay!” says the king. “For protecting our kingdom from harm, we shall make you crown prince.”
The king takes the crown from Paris’s head, who looks sad and humiliated
Hector bows before his father, receiving the crown and looking honored. “Thank you, father.”
Hector stands, proud and humble with his golden crown upon his head.
So you see, often when we take what is not ours, we actually tend to lose much more. But, when you give freely of your gifts, you gain so much more.

Picture book brainstorm for pages:

Excellent story and very well written. A great way to teach honesty and humility. I loved the story.
